Emily is a trained and dedicated Mediator and Collaborative Practice lawyer. She has over 25 years of experience as a family lawyer and more than 20 years as a panel member with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer. In these roles, she ensures that she is up-to-date with changes to legislation and new case law to ensure that clients receive relevant and accurate information as they work toward an Agreement.
Emily is keenly aware and concerned about the impact of family conflict on children and, as a long-standing member of the Ottawa High Conflict Forum, she regularly presents at the University of Ottawa Law School and elsewhere on this topic. This lens informs her work as a mediator. Her goal is to ensure that the separation process alleviates uncertainty, manages expectations and provides an optimistic future for the restructured family.
In addition to her professional commitments, Emily is the devoted mother of two remarkable young adults and a dedicated community volunteer. She has served on the Boards of Directors of a Community Health Centre, a 2nd stage women’s shelter and a daycare centre. She was also the manager of her son’s competitive basketball team for many years. She loves travel, hiking, pickleball, a good novel and the company of family, friends and animals.
